We support a number of Hospices/Old Homes in Lahore. Our volunteers plan multiple visits a year to our various supported projects. These are full fledged events which include only home cooked food, carefully curated care packages that include but are not limited to toiletries, clothes, essential daily use items etc. We take care to only get quality products keeping in view the health risks some of the residents face due to their age and/or preexisting health conditions. The residents look forward to our visits and while are always excited to recieve the gifts we find that what they look forward to most is the stimulating conversation that flows between the team and them. Sadly, many of them don’t have family members and those who do don’t visit very often so our visits are the highlight of their month and vice versa as we thoroughly enjoy their company.
Sadly, free basic quality healthrcare is still a distance dream for much of our fellow Pakistanis. We frequently step forward to help those in need by providing timely resources and advice for treatment. Within our Spreading Smiles family we also have qualified doctors who donate their time and efforts to help as and when needed. We also then use our corporate contacts to procure hard to find medicines and/or medical apparatus at discounted rates. We also try and arrange doctor appointments and followup visits where and when needed.
We are also engaged with a number of orphanages in Lahore. these include SOS Villages. Besides regular visits, we also arrange varioud events throughout the year. We emphasize on making sure we spend time with the children on major occassions such as Eid as this is when they feel the most lonely. We also arrange fun fairs and offsite visits to amusement parks, zoo etc. On each visits the children are presented with carefully prepared care packages that include essential items, toys, stationary, reading material etc. All food is home cooked, unless the children have a special request (Pizza seems to be their favourite)!
A major positive in our country that we have found is that families across the board are working towards trying and getting their children quality education. Unforunately many are unable to do this due to limited resources even though they desperately want to. We taken onboard such cases where deserving students are unable to continue their education due to financial difficulties. We not only arrange their fees but also related educational expenses such as books and stationary. These can range from primary school students to university pupils.
Unfortunately our country has suffered from multiple natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods. On top of that the Pandemic has had devastating and long standing effects on everyone however those of our Pakistanis who were already under the poverty line have suffered the most. When they are already struggling to make ends meet, such natural disasters are nothing short of a death sentence. We proide Ad-HOC assistance where and when needed for such cases, this can range from emergency rations, clothing to income replacement measures such as alternative job arrangements. This also includes replacement of damaged household essential items for deserving families.
Team Spreading Smiles frequently takes parts in organised Blood Drives. We also help ad-hoc blood requirements for any cases that come forward where blood or plasma is required urgently such as for a surgery.
